VISIT THE OXBOW LAKE AND LEARN TO DESIGN TATTOOS WITH NATURAL INKS. EXPLORE THE WORLD'S LARGEST CLAY LICK AND EMBARK ON A THIRTY MINUTE WALK TO THE 25 METER CANOPY TOWER, FROM WHERE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO APPRECIATE THE LOCAL AND VARIED WILDLIFE. TAKE AN ETHNOBOTANICAL TOUR AND LEARN ABOUT THE ECOSYSTEM AND SEVERAL MEDICINAL PLANTS.
Upon arrival at the Puerto Maldonado Airport, your expert guide will welcome you and then drive you to our headquarters, where you may leave any unnecessary luggage. We will then continue to the Tambopata River Port, where we enter into the native community of Infierno. We will then start our two and a half hour boat ride to Refugio Amazonas. Upon arrival at our lodge, you will receive a full briefing of important navigation and security tips before enjoying a delicious dinner. During the evening, you will be treated to a nocturnal jungle experience as we head out in the search of caimans with our headlamps and flashlights.
Today, you will head out and paddle around the Oxbow Lake in our boat to encounter the wide array of Amazonian wildlife such as hoatzins, caimans, horned screamers and hoping to have one of the rare otter sightings. Keep your eyes to the sky as you will also be rewarded with overhead sightings of beautiful macaws. In the early afternoon, we will take a boat back to the Refugio Amazonas. Just a few minutes from the lodge, we will visit Don Manuel, who grows a variety of popular and exotic Amazon products. At his farm, we will prepare a paste from the fruit of huito and achiote and let our artistic creativity run wild as we design and draw tattoos on ourselves, that last several days. This is a popular custom of the people in jungle tribes. After dinner, you will have the opportunity to attend a night lecture that discusses conservation threats and opportunities as well as projects in the Tambopata National Reserve.
At dawn, you will cross the river and enjoy the World's Largest Clay Lick where hundreds of parrots and macaws, up to seventeen different species, can be seen. Here we will watch as the parrots fly in from all directions and land in the trees above. When a few hundred have gathered and the noise builds to a crescendo a small group of Severe and Red-bellied Macaws will break free from the loafers in the trees and make long slow circles in front of the lick. Once these first brave pioneers land on the lick, the parrots will rain down by the dozens to join them. Mealy Amazons, Blue-headed Caiques, conures, and macaws will mix in a noisy blur of colorful wings as they rush in to get their fill of the precious clay. After an hour, the birds will drift away and leave the area in an eerie silence. Once this early morning rush of activity ends, we will head back to the lodge for breakfast. In the late morning, we head to a Peccary Clay Lick, located nearby the lodge. These wild rainforest pigs show up in herds of five to twenty to eat clay in the late morning. Chances of spotting them are around 15%, but well worth the short hike as other wildlife may also present themselves including deer, guan, and parakeets. After lunch, we will head on a short boat ride to Quebrada Gato for a thrilling afternoon of fishing.
Today, after you enjoyed breakfast, we head on an Ethnobotanical Tour, where we will find a variety of plants and trees that are used by the local population for numerous purposes. You will learn about the medicinal uses of plants such as Ajo-Sacha, Yuca de Venado, Uña de Gato, Charcot-Sacha, Para-Para. You will then have some leisure time to relax in the lodge or embark on a personal exploration along a new rainforest trail. After lunch, we will go on a 2km walk that leads us to the Tambopata River. You will be able to clearly separate a Terra Firme Forest from a Secondary Forest after this walk, as the trail crosses both distinct habitats. Resting along the way, we can witness the Tambopata on its unhurried journey across the lowland rainforest.
Today, we head to the Tambopata River Port and back to the headquarters where you can pick up your belongings, and then we continue to thePuerto Maldonado Airport in time for your domestic flight.

The booking is accepted when Cultural Immersion receives the first deposit from its clients. At this point in time the contract between client and Cultural Immersion is effective and legally binding.
In order to secure the trip, we will require a 30% deposit of the total package price by the time of your booking.
First Payment: 30% deposit by the time of booking
Second Payment: Full Amount, to be paid 45 days prior to your arrival
In the case the booking will be proceeded 45 or less days to the arrival, the whole amount will be required in once.
If the booking is made 45 days or less from the arrival time then the whole amount will be required at the time of booking.
The first and second payment can be made using credit card via PayPal, Payments made through credit card / paypal are subject to a 5% surcharge.

We reserve the right to cancel a trip at any time for a reason that would compromise the quality of the trip or the safety of the passengers or any other circumstances beyond our control . In this case, we will either refund this part of your trip or aplly this cost to other services (eventual additional cost)
In case we need to cancel the tour (not related to situations beyond our control), we will refund your fully paid pre-payments or work with you to apply those payments to another tour
