Carefully selected restaurants and authentic food:
Peru is a well know culinary destination and food is very important in our culture. Even if you are not visiting Peru just for its food; this will be definitely a highlight of your stay. All meals we include are carefully chosen using the best local restaurant where you can try very authentic and delicious food. Most of our itineraries as well include a culinary experience at Cusco Culinary, where you will learn about the local cuisine guided by an expert Peruvian chef.
Peru behind the scenes:
It is important to mention that we have a unique authentic program. From the day you arrive, we will not take you through the crowded tourist routes; instead we have carefully organized our itineraries going to off the beaten track locations and visiting the most interesting and authentic sites. For sure there will be some visits to the most popular places such as Machu Picchu or Ollantaytambo; however, even when visiting these places, we will try to arrive at less crowded times and accommodate the visit using different circuits so you have the feeling that the place is just for you. We also believe that part of your visit should include contact with the locals to understand their way of life – therefore whenever possible we include visits to native Andean communities, a homestay or agricultural activities where you will able to not only watch but participate hand by hand with the locals.
We really hope you choose us to organize your once in a lifetime Cultural Immersion experience!
Welcome to Peru. As most of the international flights arrive in Lima late and there are no connecting flights at night, you will stay in one of the hotels close to the airport for you to have a good rest before your early flight the next day.As the hotel is inside the airport (exclusive and luxury option) you will be able to reach it on your own. If you need us to book a guide or someone who assist you let us know. *If you would like to have an additional day to explore the city of Lima, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will customize your itinerary accordingly.
In the morning, you will be able to reach your airline counter from your nearby hotel on your own. If you need somebody to assist you please let us know. Upon arrival to the Incan Empire of Cusco, your private tour guide will welcome you to the city and take you to the Sacred Valley of the Incas by private van. Along the route to your hotel, you will have the chance to experience the rich culture and nature of the Andes for the first time and to have first off the beaten track encounters with the local people, apart from the crowded tourist spots. Therefore, we will take you to Quillarumyoc first, which is an archaeological site approximately 50km from Cusco, where ancient cultures used to worship the moon. This still quite unknown site has a huge rock with a semicircular cut in its center, which is representing the shape of a rising moon and was dedicated to the Goddess of the moon – it is, therefore, the only place in the country, where temples were constructed to worship the sacred feminine. Additionally, you can also observe the agricultural terraces typical of the region and enjoy an incredible view of the Andes at this truly mystical place. The second stop of the day is Izcuchaca, a sleepy, picturesque village in the valley, which is not visited by tourists frequently. You will have the chance to wander around the streets of the city, getting a first impression of the daily life of the farmers in the Andean highlands. Along the way to your hotel, we will pass by beautiful Waypo Lake, always accompanied by the snow-capped mountains. Tonight you have the choice to stay in Maras, a local village with the most amazing views of the glaciers of the Andes or go down the Valley.
This day will be full of surprises and offers you plenty of possibilities to explore the culture and the nature of the Peruvian Andes.During the morning, you can learn about ancient Incan and pre-Incan agricultural methods, including a visit to the salt mines of Maras and local fields, you can also visit the circulate terraces of Moray used as an agriculture laboratory during the Incas time. As an alternative, you are also able to include sporty activities such as a biking tour through the stunning landscape of the Sacred Valley or a kayaking adventure on Waypo Lake, a calm lake between the snow-capped mountains. So please, let us know if you would like to bike or kayak this day!On the afternoon, you will be able to experience cultural activities, such as a visit to a local school we support with our social projects. According to our concept at Cultural Immersion, you will make sure to provide you with an authentic experience, including interaction with the local communities who will be happy to show you around and allow you to partake in their daily life for a short time. *Lunch included this day
In the morning, your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel for your private tour of Ollantaytambo, one of the last Incan refugees during Spanish colonization. You will step back in time as many of the houses and buildings continue to stand from the Incan empire and display original architecture. You will be invited to enter one of these houses to observe the building and the way in which the people used to live. Then we will take you to the train station of Ollantaytambo, where you will board the train to Aguas Calientes. On this one and a half hour spectacular train journey you will be able to observe a change in the landscape, from the typical Andean highlands to the beginning of the jungle.Upon arrival to Aguas Calientes, your private tour guide will take you to the bus station and accompany you to the complex of Machu Picchu ´The Lost City of the Incas´. We truly recommend visiting this highlight in the afternoon, as it is less crowded which gives you the opportunity to better feel the spirit of this truly magic site. During your tour of this sacred Incan site, you will learn about the history and visit the truly remarkable temples of the Sun and the Condor. You will also see the aqueducts and houses while learning some interesting facts about the Incan Sacred Terraces. After your guided tour, you will have plenty of time to explore this truly magnificent site on your own. There are many short trek options, such as the one to the Sun Gate for an impressive view of Machu Picchu or a visit to the Incan Bridge, a secret entrance for the Incan Army.In the later afternoon, you will return to Aguas Calientes where you will you have the rest of the evening to spend at your leisure. You should not miss taking a bath in the hot springs or have a great dinner in one of our recommended restaurants.
Optional short Inca Trail: As an option today you could also replace this tour for the short Incan Trail to Machu Picchu, This is a great option we recommend you as it will not only let you enjoy fully of Machu Picchu without crowds but also includes a second visit the next morning. If you decide to do this you will take an early train in the morning and get off at the Km 104, from here you will start your trek, always accompanied by your private tour guide and walk for about 6 - 7 hours to reach Machu Picchu, upon arrival you will enjoy a first spectacular view of the citadel from the Sun Gate. The additional cost for this option is 200 USD per person including entrance ticket, tour guide, and Machu Pichu 2 day visit. If you would like to take this option you need to let us know in advance as there are limited spaces for the Inca Trail.
Today, you will have the morning to spend at your leisure on your own. You will have the opportunity to revisit Machu Picchu (entrance and bus tickets not included) to enjoy the many short trekking options or venture the famous mountain climb to the summit of Wayna Picchu, which can be scheduled at either 7 am or 10 am. However, there is a limit on the number of people who can climb each day so you will need to book it with us in advance. If you do not want to revisit Machu Picchu, you might want to take a walk through the crooked alleys of Aguas Calientes and observe the life of the people in this truly touristy place or take a bath in the hot springs of the place. After lunch, you will board the scenic train back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival to the train station, we will pick you up and transfer you to Cusco by private van.
In the morning, your tour guide will meet you at your hotel to begin your city tour of Cusco. You will visit the Cusco Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site, located in Plaza de Armas, the main square. Here you will see many very important holy Christian artifacts and artwork derived from the ‘Escuela Cuzquena’ (Cuzco Art School). Your tour will then take you to the Temple of the Sun, ‘Qoricancha’, located on the main Avenida El Sol (Avenue of the Sun). This Incan site was one of the most worshipped and respected temples of the Incan Empire, After our visits, we will explore the local neighborhood of San Blas, which is the most picturesque and where you will find many art galleries and enjoy the local contemporary art. In the afternoon, we will start our culinary experience by taking you to the San Pedro Market, where you will see a wide variety of goods including, the vast different kind of potatoes, corn, meat, cheese, fruits, etc. Afterwards, you will be taken to the Cusco Culinary Cooking Studio, located in the center of Cusco where our Peruvian Professional Chef will show you how to prepare the most popular and tasty dishes of the Andes of Peru, including a refreshing drink, appetizer, main course, dessert and, of course, the famous Pisco Sour, in this fascinating tour you will not only be able to prepare your own meal but also enjoy the great Peruvian food.
Early in the morning, you will begin your spectacular journey through the Andes to Lake Titicaca. The first stop on this scenic route will be Andahuaylillas church known as the Andean Sistine Chapel, where you will see intriguing 16th, 17th and 18th-century mural paintings and altars completely decorated in gold. The atmosphere is truly terrific as is the sleepy village around it. The next archeological highlight on your trip will be Racchi, a small highland town, where you will see the Incan temple of Wiracocha and learn about its fascinating construction with adobe brick walls that measure up to 11 meters high. We will also have the opportunity to visit a hidden archeological site at Checacupe, a very small village that still preserves the richness of the Incan and colonial architecture. After lunch, you will travel through the highest point of the journey, La Raya (4300m, 14100ft), which is the halfway point between Cusco and Puno. You will arrive at Pukara, which is famous for its ceramic production and its most famous figurines, the two bulls, which are a common sight on the rooftops of Andean houses as they bring good luck. At 5 pm, you will arrive in Puno, which lies on the banks of Lake Titicaca. One of our representatives will take you to your hotel where you will have the rest of the night to relax or explore the city.
Today, your guide and driver will be waiting for you at your hotel to take you to the highest navigable lake in the world, Lake Titicaca. During the morning, we will visit the highly unique Uros Floating Islands, which have been built using only totora reeds, a water plant that grows in the lake. You will be amazed to see how the locals use the totora reeds to build their canoes, houses, beds and many other objects, necessary in their daily lives. As part of your visit to Uros, you will ride on a totora reed canoe, which will let you experience a smooth and pleasant trip around the islands. From here, we will continue on to Taquile Island via private motor boat for 2 hours, so you can relax and enjoy the stunning scenery of Lake Titicaca. Upon arrival to the private Cultural Immersion Bay at Taquile Beach, you will enjoy a locally prepared lunch of delicious and very fresh Lake Titicaca trout. After lunch, you have an opportunity to take a short hike to explore around the island. During the evening, you will be welcomed to your island hut with a locally cooked Peruvian dinner, and you will pass the night in your cozy little hut. (Note: If you decide to go with a shared tour, you might stay on a different island)
Early in the morning, you will rise to a locally cooked breakfast with a spectacular view of the sunrise overlooking Lake Titicaca. After breakfast, you will walk around Taquile Island and learn about its pre-Incan constructions and agricultural terraces. This will be a great opportunity to get immersed in the local Culture as this Island is one of the last refuges where they still preserve their heritage, and not many travelers get to stay on this island. In the afternoon, we will depart from Taquile and take you back to Puno, where you will have the rest of the day to spend at your leisure.
In the morning, you will leave Lake Titicaca and continue your journey to the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest Canyon in the world. Along the six-hour journey, you will have a view of magnificent landscapes marked by lakes, lagoons, trout farms and Andean flamingos. You will also reach the soaring altitude of 4850m (12,000ft), which will give you an unbelievable view of the highlands. After this spectacular journey, you will arrive at your hotel, located in one of the small villages at the entrance to the Canyon, where you will have the rest of the day to spend at your leisure. You might hike around the town, take a bath in the nearby thermal baths or just relax surrounded by the amazing nature of the region.
Very early in the morning, you will be met at your hotel and taken to the most spectacular places in the Colca Canyon. Along the way, we will stop in some small Andean villages where time seems to have stood still and Colonial architecture continues to be well preserved. We will then travel along the canyon until we reach ‘Mirador Cruz del Condor’, which is the most popular viewing point for looking into the depths of the Colca Canyon; at this particular point, it is 1200m deep. From here you will almost always see a few condors flying with breathtaking scenery in the background. You will have an opportunity for a short hike along the canyon and afterward, you will enjoy a nicely prepared local lunch. Once you have taken in the refreshing air of the Colca Canyon, we will head to your hotel in Arequipa, which will take approximately 4 hours through the spectacular scenery of lakes, glaciers, and volcanoes.
Today, your private driver will meet you at your hotel and take you to the Arequipa Airport. Your flight will take approximately one hour and a half from Arequipa to Lima. You will arrive in Lima in time for your international flight. We truly hope you had a wonderful Cultural Immersion in Peru!
