Take a private tour to the archeological site of Sillustani, a sacred pre-Incan burial ground. Enjoy a nice lunch in Puno before a private tour to one of the oldest towns in the region, Chucuito, and visit the Temple of Fertility, a small temple with dozens of meter-high stone phalluses planted in the earth.
Today, your private driver and tour guide will pick you up from your hotel for your tour of Sillustani and Chucuito. At our first stop, we will visit the interesting archeological site of Sillustani. This site is a sacred pre-Incan burial ground that holds above-ground tombs constructed in the shape of tall towers made from giant stones. You will also have the opportunity to visit some local houses where you will learn about daily life in this part of the Andes. After the tour, we will take you back to Puno for lunch. In the afternoon we will take you to Chucuito. Chucuito is one of the oldest towns in the region and is located 18 kilometers south of Puno. Here, you will visit the exciting ancient Temple of Fertility, which is the ‘must see’ attraction in Chucuito. This is a small temple with dozens of meter-high stone phalluses planted in the earth. Unfortunately, many of the stones were taken years ago by locals and the temple was buried and abandoned. However, in recent years archeologists have restored the temple back to its former glory, and most phalluses were returned to their original setting. The temple continues to work its magic as the local women still sneak into the temple at night, with coca leaves and chicha, to perform a ceremony designed to help them to become pregnant. After the tour, we will take you back to your hotel.
