In the morning, your private guide and driver will meet you at your hotel for your city tour of Quito. You will wander through the beautiful historical streets to learn about the history and stories of this marvelous capital city. Some places that you will visit are the Independence Plaza, which is lined by the Archbishop´s Palace, the Municipal Palace, and the Metropolitan Cathedral. You will also visit La Compañía Church, a stunningly beautiful and rich church designed with the style of the Spanish Baroque Architecture and decorated using intricate gold leaf designs and wood carvings. Another impressive church is the San Francisco Church, which consists of a temple, a series of chapels, and a convent. This church covers a significant area of land that was used as a market center and a place of significant strategic and historical importance for the indigenous population of Quito. You will also visit Mitad del Mundo, the Middle of the World, a monument and museum park dedicated to the equator. The site depicts the equatorial line and contains a monument commemorating the first Geodesic mission of the French Academy of Science, a museum about the indigenous ethnography of Ecuador, a planetarium, and a model of Quito City. In the afternoon, you will return to your hotel where you will have the rest of the evening to spend at your leisure.
In the morning, you will take your flight from Quito or Guayaquil to Baltra Island, Galapagos Islands. After passing through immigration and baggage claim, you will be met by the Natural Paradise staff and transferred to the yacht. On the boat, we will show you your cabin where you will have some time to settle in before lunch and a welcome briefing. After lunch, you will visit the Charles Darwin Station, where you will be able to see giant tortoises, Opuntia cactus, etc. Additionally, you will do a short hike, before boarding the cruise before dinner.
Today, after breakfast, we will take you to Ballena Bay. The visitor site is a cove of green sand at the basis of Ballena Hill on the west coast of Santa Cruz Island. The beach contains a lot of olivine crystals, the same that originate from volcanic materials. The crystals were formed when the magma was still underground. Near the beach, there are ceramic relics, which reflect human settlements that were close to the beach in 1846. Difficulty: Moderate Duration: 2 hours. Lunch at noon. In the afternoon, we will take you to Dragon Hill, which is located in the northwest of Santa Cruz Island. It got its name because back in 1975 it was one of the only places on Santa Cruz Island where there were land iguanas in a healthy state.
In the morning, we will visit Tintoreras. The islet is located south of Puerto Villamil. It has a small bay of calm turquoise waters, where you can appreciate sea lions, sea turtles, marine iguanas, rays, etc. The bay is connected to a crevice of crystal clear water, which is shallow and when the tide is low the entrance closes. If you are lucky, you will be able to see how reef sharks swim along with other small fish and sea lions. After lunch, we will continue to `Humedales´. The Wetland is a network of trails, adjacent to Puerto Villamil. There are nine tracks that comprise the following sites: The Wall of Tears, Cerro Orchilla, El Estero, Poza Escondida, Poza Redonda, Tunnel del Estero, Playa del Amor, Bay of Tunis and Pozas Verdes.
The Wetlands are coastal mangroves and brackish water lagoons formed by seepage of seawater and freshwater underground tributaries coming from the upper parts of the island. They are also an important feeding area for the Galapagos penguin and one of the main nesting sites for green turtles. The wetlands of Isabela Island are essential for the maintenance of a biological diversity of Galapagos, as they are home to several species that depend exclusively on the wetland – flamenco, Bug, stilt, oystercatcher, Gallinula, ghost crab, and fiddler crabs.
In the morning, we will take you to Punta Moreno, which is located on the north coast of Isabela Island. To get there, you will do a hike of approximately 2 km. The main attraction in Punta Moreno is the coastal lagoon in the middle of black lava flow where there are several species of birds. From here, you will have an excellent view over three volcanoes, among the most actives in the Galapagos: Sierra Negra and Cerro Azul. In the afternoon, we will continue our expedition to Urbina Bay, which is located at the base of volcanoes Alcedo and Darwin, west of Isabela Island. Here you can find corals, shells, and many other organisms exposed above the water. This area is also home to large and very colorful Galápagos land iguanas and giant tortoises.
In the morning, we will visit Punta Espinosa, which is a jagged promontory of cracked and eroded lava, but the name could also refer to the hundreds of spiny marine iguanas that drape the rocks. Pristine nature under an active volcano is a highlight of any cruise. Flightless cormorants, Galapagos penguins, Galapagos sea lions, waders and the world’s largest colony of marine iguanas thrive on the edge of a barren lava flow. Fine stands of mangroves support yellow warblers, Darwin finches, large billed flycatchers, Galapagos hawks and nesting brown pelicans. In the afternoon, we will continue to `Caleta Tagus´, which is located west of Darwin volcano on Isabela Island. It was a favorite place for pirates and whalers. There is observed a tradition that has been maintained since that time: the inscription of the names of boats. At the beginning of our hike, rising and passing the staircase, there is a small cave where we found inscriptions dating from the 1800s.
In the morning, we will start our day with a visit to Puerto Egas, which is located northwest of Santiago Island. It is a fascinating place to visit because it had a great volcanic activity in the past. Puerto Egas is one of the most popular sites in the Galapagos Archipelago. It has a beautiful black sand beach where you can see its many species such as sea lions, chameleons, lizards and herons. In the afternoon, we will head towards Rabida Island. Also known by the name of Jervis in honor of a British Admiral John Jervis, Earl of St. Vincent, Rabida is located 5 km south of Santiago Island and is commonly regarded as the geographical center of the Galapagos Islands. It has an area of 4.9 km² and a maximum altitude of 367 meters. It has a high iron content, which causes that this place has a distinctive reddish color. Its main attraction is the salt lagoon with flamingoes, pelicans and boobies place where they build their nests.
We will start our last day on the islands with a visit to `Las Bachas´, which is a white sand beach, where you can see flamingos and migratory birds. In the vicinity of the Las Bachas beach, we can observe predominant vegetation of the coastal zone. Las Bachas Beach represents one of the main nesting sites of sea turtles (Cheloniamydas) on Isla Santa Cruz. It is a very popular place for snorkeling and swimming. After the morning excursion, we will take you to the airport of Baltra, in time for your flight back to the mainland.
